Xiaomi launched its budget smartphone Redmi Y2 today in a live event. The event took place in New Delhi at 3 pm IST and streamed live via Mi.com. Redmi Y2 is an upgrade to Redmi Y1 which got a huge success in India under budget smartphone segment. However, Redmi Y2 is a rebranded version of Redmi S2, which was launched a month ago in China.

Xiaomi has been emphasising on the 16 MP AI-Selfie camera of Redmi Y2 in teasers on Mi.com and twitter. The smartphone comes with face unlock, Snapdragon 625 octa core processor, dual rear cameras, IR blaster and full screen view with 18:9 aspect ratio.

Specifications

  • 3 GB RAM + 32 GB ROM | 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM
  • 5.99 inch FHD screen with 18:9 aspect ratio
  • 12MP + 5MP Dual Rear Camera | 16 MP Front camera with AI-based Beautify 4.0
  • 3080 mAh Battery
  • Snapdragon 625 Octa Core Processor
  • Face Unlock
  • MIUI 9.5 (Eligible for MIUI 10)
  • Fingerprint Sensor
  • Dedicated Slot ( 2 SIM + microSD card)

Price

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 will be available in 2 price variants and three color variants - dark grey, rose gold and gold.

  • 3GB + 32GB         ₹ 9,999
  • 4GB + 64GB         ₹ 12,999

Availibility

The smartphone will exclusively be available on Amozon.com and Mi.com. First flash sale on Amazon and Mi.com will start on June 12 at 12:00 pm IST.

This smartphone will surely give a tough competition to recently launched Oppo Real Me 1 and other smartphones in budget segment with good selfie cameras. In my opinion, if you are a selfie lover and a moderate smartphone user then you can give this phone a shot.

MIUI 10 launch in India

Xiaomi also unveiled its long awaited MIUI 10 with the launch of Redmi Y2 at the launch event. The public beta release of MIUI 10 will expectedly start in late July this year. In case you missed the Redmi Y2 launch, here you can get all the action you missed lately.

[Fixed] Unable to open an app from notification or unable to share or import somthing in an app in MIUI

  • Nothing happens when I try to open an app from notifications.
  • Nothing happens when I try to share any thing from an app.
  • Unable to import or export content from/in an app.

To be very true these were the most annoying problem I faced after buying a Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime. It was my first Mi phone so I was not very familiar to MIUI. I faced the issue when I tried to open some apps from notifications. Additionally I was unable to share and import content in some apps. After 10 days of trial and error, I got rid of the problem. Luckily it was not a big bug. This problem could upset you after buying a new phone so I am sharing the method to solve this annoying issue.

Step 1

Note down the apps having such problems.

Step 2

Go to settings> Installed apps

Step 3

Now select one of the apps having the issues. Scroll down to find and select "Other Permissions".

Step 4

Turn on "Start in background" and "Display pop-up window" options.

Step 5

Repeat the process for other such apps having problems.

Reason:

Like other blogs and how-to sites I will not only tell you the method. I'll tell you what's the reason behind it. Actually in Android 6.0 Marshmallow and up apps get installed without asking much permissions. They later ask you to give permission to use storage, contacts, wifi etc. when needed. If you deny a required permission, app can't use a resource. In our case some apps don't ask to allow them to "start in background" and to "create pop-up window". When we give them permissions, they work fine.

Enjoy.
